More than 3,500 youth from across the country participated in the application process to receive a scholarship covering all academic costs, English language strengthening, a tutoring program, a monthly allowance for personal expenses, and a book allowance.
Guatemala, November 2, 2022. The dream of 50 Young people to pursue their university studies became a reality today after The Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation, the social arm of CMI (Corporación Multi Inversiones), presented the recipients of the “Isabel Gutiérrez de Bosch Scholarship” of the University Scholarship Program.
The program allows talented young people to study for the career of their dreams in the best private universities in the country. This is the twenty-third edition in which the University Scholarship Program of The Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation receives 50 new Young Guatemalans.
To date, more than 415 young people have benefited and are given the tools to succeed and contribute to the country’s development. The Foundation, together with CMI, seeks to solve problems at the root with comprehensive, replicable, and self-sufficient programs in education, health, nutrition, and entrepreneurship.
Academic excellence, effort, and dedication are the main attributes that made all the young people who participated in this year’s scholarship program stand out. The careers that the students will pursue are mainly focused on engineering: Administrative Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering in Management Sciences, Mechatronics Engineering, and Industrial Technology Engineering, as well as very creative careers, such as Molecular Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Bachelor in International Marketing and Business Analytics, Bachelor in Business Administration with specialization in International Business and Bachelor in Marketing, among others.
“With a clear commitment to education, more than 90% of the ‘Isabel Gutiérrez de Bosch’ scholarships are focused on engineering and scientific careers, which we add to Guatemala’s productivity today. The scholarship program is named after my mother because of her legacy and the constant effort she made for education. It is a reflection of our firm belief, both at The Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation and CMI, that education is the path to the growth of society and the development of people’s full potential,” said Felipe Bosch Gutiérrez, vice president of The Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation.
These students, who with great enthusiasm will be integrated into the academic life of the country starting next January, will have 100% of their academic costs covered for five years and will be provided with a book allowance, a monthly allowance for personal expenses, English language reinforcement and an accompaniment and tutoring program to encourage them to successfully reach their goal.
“By 2023, 50 new young Guatemalans will be able to build their dreams and transform their lives through a university career that will open the doors to achieve each of their goals, transcend and change the history of our country. This brings to 415 the total number of Guatemalans who have benefited from a university scholarship. Each one of them honors our corporate and family values REIR: Responsibility, Excellence, Integrity, and Respect,” said Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga, president of The Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation and chairman of CMI Foods.
Each of the young beneficiaries applied to the call for applications process. In the last phase, The Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation managed to reach more than 3,500 young people, of which 900 met the requirements, achieving their aptitude evaluation of 500, filtering more than 90 to conduct the final interview, thus reaching 60 young people who underwent a socioeconomic study to choose the 50 new scholarship recipients.
To be eligible for a university scholarship from The Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation, applicants had to meet several requirements, including being in the last year of high school at the time of application, having a minimum average of 85 points in third grade, and each year of high school, and needing financial support to start and complete the university process.
